Oil Light

Scan a barcode, or point the camera at the ingredients, and see whether a food contains seed oils. Thank you for trying it before anyone else.

Installing it

Oil Light is not in the Play Store yet, so your phone will ask a couple of extra questions. They are the normal ones for any app installed this way.

1. Tap “Download for Android” above. If Chrome says the file might be harmful, tap Download anyway.
2. Open the file when it finishes: tap Open in the message at the bottom of the screen, or open the Files app, go to Downloads, and tap oil-light.apk.
3. If your phone says it isn't allowed to install unknown apps from this source, tap Settings, switch on Allow from this source, then go back.
4. Tap Install. If Google Play Protect warns that it doesn't recognize the app, tap More details and then Install anyway. It asks because the app is new, not because anything was found.
5. Open Oil Light and allow the camera when it asks. The camera is the only permission it uses.

Getting a newer version

Come back to this page and do the same steps. It installs over the old one and keeps your history and settings.

Telling us what went wrong

Anything that surprised you is worth hearing: a wrong answer, a label it couldn't read, a screen that made no sense. Tell the person who sent you this link, and a screenshot helps. Inside the app, a scan that went wrong can also be reported from its result screen.

On an iPhone?

iPhones can't install apps this way. The iPhone version will come through Apple's testing app, TestFlight.

Later, in the Play Store

When Oil Light is in the Play Store, uninstall this copy before installing that one. Your phone treats them as different apps, and won't let one replace the other.
